What is TARA?
TARA’s fore-runner was formed in 2003 at a time when many period houses were being demolished and trees felled to make way for some very unsympathetic developments.
The formal organisation of TARA allows us to have a significant voice with Councillors and Planners. We monitor planning applications and will comment on those which we think will adversely affect the neighbourhood and / or living conditions for residents.
TARA seeks to help to maintain and improve the quality of the local living environment for residents. The ideas and involvement of residents are what drives TARA and gives us a strong position when working with elected officials and other bodies.
We are affiliated to organisations like Exmouth Communities Association, and also to the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England who are influential in trying to limit building developments in sensitive area such as the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on our doorstep.
Our future vision, supported by feedback from residents, includes helping to ensure safe roads and travel for all within the community by working with the Highways Department. The vision also covers a focus on maintaining the “green look and feel” of The Avenues whether via tree planting or flower beds where sites can be identified. The TARA Committee is keen on working with other community groups across the town on joint projects.
Membership of TARA is open to residents and anyone else who wishes to join us to help us achieve our goals, click on this link: Join Us .
